Have Food Restrictions? This Vegan Mayo Will Be Your MVP on Game Day

Last Update: September 28, 2022

Even if you’re not a huge football fan, watching the big game is a great excuse to meet up with friends to enjoy some drinks and an epic spread.

But for those with food restrictions—or anyone who made resolutions to eat healthy in 2017—a buffet of chips, deep-fried finger foods, and bacon-wrapped everything, spells trouble. So whether you’re hosting the party or just in charge of bringing your own dish, consider making something a little lighter than the usual fare.

Better yet—make it vegan! Recent research suggests that replacing animal protein with plant-based sources is associated with lower mortality, so offering a delicious veggie option is a good thing for everyone. Many times, a simple ingredient swap is all it takes to turn a favorite recipe into something your herbivore friends can enjoy, too.

Coleslaw is a perfect example. Shredded cabbage and carrots are the base of this popular salad, but mixing in loads of calorie-laden mayonnaise prevents it from being vegan or healthy. Subbing coconut oil mayo for your usual jar changes that.

Made with real food ingredients like coconut oil and avocado oil (and none of the preservatives or GMO ingredients typically found in conventional soy- and canola-based mayos), Nuco serves up healthy medium-chain fatty acids. Organic cider vinegar, lemon juice concentrate, mustard flour, and rosemary extract uphold the savory flavor profile that makes mayo such a tasty addition to dips and spreads. Smear it on veggie burger sliders or use it to make a salad dressing or aioli dip for a grilled vegetable platter. At only 80 calories per tablespoon, you can enjoy it without shirking those resolutions before the year has even gotten fully underway.
